David's Day

Without doubt, Tiverton GC witnessed the finest display of Stedman golf ever seen. Opening with a par on the 10th, he romped around the first nine holes played (10 through 18) in 45 shots and a princely 22 points. The second half saw no let up with a score of 47 and a further 21 points notched up. It was the consistency that most impressed together with a revised handicap of 24. Well done David.

In other news, Richard T broke a ton but only just retained the trousers from Harry, who sank a tricky putt on the last hole for a par. Kevin played inconsistently, almost keeping pace with David on the first half but then the introduction of some novel driving technique didn't help matters in the second half. That said, he did win plaudits for a remarkable shot of the day: a putt from off the green on the 6th hole that went like an Exocet at the pin before dropping in.

Revised handicaps are David 24.2, Harry 16.4, Kevin 16.7 and Richard T 17.4.

And, just for the sake of completeness, Charlie's handicap is 19.9, Martyn 17.9, Malcolm 17.9, Mike 18.1 and Richard M 22.6.

  1. Luckily there was no mention of the extended bunker "workshop" by the dream team! Were the black and whites to be in play then we both might have beaten Mike's record. First hole (10) myself and Harry took a total of 10 shots to get out of the bunker!, I concur with stato that David "tiger" Steadman was in devastating form, demonstrated by him watching me hit my best drive of the day ( and possibly the only one on a fairway) on the 6 th , for him to step up and drive it to the same spot, An awesome display well done David.

  2. Thank you one and all for a very enjoyable day. Thanks to Stato for the gentle words of wisdom fluttering my way to keep me on track, Photo's cryptic comment "are you the David Stedman that used to play with us?" and Richard "Three Fairways" for keeping me laughing all the way round.
Statos' "flat Perrier" moment was on the 3rd hole, Captain, Photo and me were lounging, langourously, on the tee behind Stato as he stepped up to drive confidently, he put so much top spin on the ball that it disappeared into the bushes in front, he could sense the silent shaking of shoulders behind him and we could contain ourselves no longer as he turned around with a wry smile.
