In April 1987 Tiger Woods set 20 new records at Augusta in the process of winning his maiden major. He scored a record breaking 18 under par over four rounds and beat the field by a record margin of 12 shots.
Eat your heart out, Tiger. Malcolm Scott broke all known records previously held by Tiger Woods at Tiverton Golf Club in the process of beating the field by 8 points in just one round. Extrapolated that is considerably better than Tiger's achievement at the other Masters. On this form, Malcolm would have beaten the field by 32 points. Is this the greatest win ever in a major? Only time will tell.
In the process of racking up his 40 points, Malcolm also collected Bolly and the yellow cap. Charlie collected the bunker trousers, while the harlequin trousers were awarded to Richard T in recognition of his 25 points scored on the original date set for the D.O.G.S. Masters.
The only question outstanding is whether Malcolm can turn his victory into multiple victories, or whether he will be as well remembered as Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Charles Coody and Bob Goalby? All I know for sure is that Malcolm's new handicap is 15.1.
Well done Malcolm! A great achievement, one which I hope to overtake the next time I get a chance to play. Which will probably be next August at this rate. cheers David
